A controversial online dating service is now offering fertility-challenged members the chance to create a more beautiful baby (Aren't all babies beautiful?). BeautifulPeople.com is launching a fertility introduction service, so people can search for attractive sperm and egg donors.
BeautifulPeople.com is a dating service that only allows attractive people to join (based on member votes). The site made news earlier this year after throwing out about 5,000 men and women who put on poundage during the holiday season. The founder, Robert Hintze, was quoted as saying, “Letting fatties roam the site is a direct threat to our business model and the very concept for which BeautifulPeople.com was founded.” (Wonder what he considers a fattie? 5 pounds over model thin? How much weight could these people have put on during the holidays?) To be fair, they were told they could re-apply after losing the Lbs. (How generous...) Now BeautifulPeople.com is "helping" people up the odds that they'll have offspring worthy of a magazine cover. Managing Director Greg Hodge says, “There are no financial benefits for us in doing so — we are simply responding to a demand for attractive donors. Every parent would like their child to be blessed with many fine attributes, attractiveness being one of the most sought after. For a site with members who resemble Brad Pitt, George Clooney and Angelina Jolie you can imagine the demand.” To start, the fertility forum will be limited to those deemed dazzling (and we're not talking personality here). But it will soon be open to the masses. "Everyone --- including ugly people -- would like to bring good looking children in to the world, and we can’t be selfish with our attractive gene pool," said Hintze. (Gee, thanks.) How does the forum work? According to BeautifulPeople.com, "members register and state their procreation interests. A number of members already registered on the forum are married or in a relationship where for many reasons, an external donor is required. Likewise, many men have been able to register to help infertile couples or single women to conceive healthy, attractive offspring.... Members wishing to donate will be able to access information on which clinics to contact and gather information on the donor protocol."
