We always had coconut macaroons for Hannukah and I could eat a ton -- plain, with chocolate chips, chocolate-dipped. That was about as adventerous as we got, but since the main point was coconut and gently-carmelized condensed milk, who needs anything else?

fav holiday treat
written by Greta, December 13, 2009
The holidays were a big thing with my family. We were the gathering house for the holidays because my grandfather lived with us. All my aunts and uncles had their "specialty" that they would bring. My favorite was definitely my Aunt Mamie's whole wheat rolls! I would keep an eye on the trays of rolls, waiting for them to be popped into the oven. Then I would hang around the kitchen and as soon as the rolls came out would snag a couple and get out before anyone could tell me "don't"!

Rice pudding
written by Patti prissypants, December 12, 2009
My favorite treat is rice pudding made with brown rice and lots of eggs. It has a great custard on top and every time my girls and I make it we try a new additive. Sometimes we add cranberries, nuts or raisins. I love it because my daughters and I make it together in my grandmothers bowl. She taugt me to make it and now my 6 yr old knows the recipe by heart. I love that she will grow up remembering that we shared this together and will teach her children to make it as well. It is our special tradition and every bite reminds me of my childhood and my childrens smiles.

My grandfather was Polish and every year at Christmas he would make Chrischikie's ("little ears"), a type of Polish cookie. He started that tradition with us as well and every year we would gather around the table and watch Gramps roll the dough out and create these beautiful yet very delicate cookies. He would deep fry them and then douse them with powdered sugar!! They melt in your mouth and we never made enough so we had to savor every bit of them, and we sure did!! My Gramps has since passed on and my dad has taken the helm of continuing our family tradition! Happy Holidays!

favorite holiday treat
written by Jennifer Hancock, December 11, 2009
My very favorite holiday treat has to be Sharron Thomas' Grandmother's Dumplings. We have been making them for holiday dinners since we shared a holiday dinner with Sharron Thomas back in the early '80s, now her grandmother's dumplings are part of our family tradition too. Because they only come out for special dinners, they bring back memories of other holidays in years past, and the special people we shared those times with.

I love British "Christmas Pudding" sometimes called Plum Pudding here. I like it with lemon sauce instead of the traditional sauce it comes with.

Grandma's Divinity
written by Kayla Parker, December 11, 2009
My Grandmother made the best fuffy divinity every christmas. She would put pecans in just a few because she knew I was the only one who could eat them. I try to make it now and can never get it right. My grandmother used to say if the humidity is too high that the divinity wouldn't set. Now whenever I make it and it comes out looking like elmers glue (and tasting like heaven) I just say that it is way too humid out!

My favorite hoilday treat...
written by Maura, December 11, 2009
...is my mom's Sweet Potato Pie. I know it's more of a traditionally southern Thanksgiving dish and we sure do eat it at Thanksgiving, but it also makes an appearance on Christmas and I eat it as often as I can over the holiday.

My mother-in-law's apricot thumbprint cookies are soooooooo good! I also just saw a friend post a reference to orange shortbread cookies dipped in dark chocolate, so I'm going to have to weasel that recipe out of her - orange and chocolate is absolutely my favorite combination!
